I'm a new subscriber and, as far as I know, the McMillon (or McMillan)
Family is my only branch with Scottish roots. My great-great-grandparents
were Neal McMillon and Lucinda Jane Strickland. Neal was born May 28, 1822,
in NC. Neal's known siblings were: Archibald, b. 1810; Flora, b. 1821;
James, b. 1826; and Nancy, b. 1829. They were in Haywood Co. (now Crockett
Co.) TN by 1840, at which time the Scottish born mother, Mary, was a widow.
By 1860, Neal and Lucinda Jane had settled in Greene Co., AR (northeast
corner of state), and on the 1870 census, it was reported that both of
Neal's parents were foreign born.
I know that Cumberland Co. NC had a large number of Scottish immigrants and,
in fact, there were several McMillans there in the early 1800s.
Is anyone on the list researching McMillans in NC? I would appreciate any
help I can get.
Thanks.
