Subject: [NCSCOTS] Angus Doddridge Currie & the Laurinburg (NC) Exchange Newspaper
Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2000 19:20:36 -0500
It is my understanding that Angus Doddridge (A. D.) Currie (1848-1938) wrote
a regular column for the Laurinburg (NC) Exchange in the late 1920's and
early to mid 1930's about his early recollections with an emphasis on the
Civil War and Reconstruction. Has anyone attempted to gather these articles
together and publish them? Or have they all been copied from the paper and
compiled for reference purposes? He also wrote for some other local papers
in this area of North Carolina but I do not have their names. And finally is
anyone aware of a good run of this paper from this time period (1920-1935 or
so)?
A. D. Currie was the son of John C. Currie and Margaret Keahey Currie. He
was married to Gertrude China (1852-1939) and they are both interred in the
Johnson burial plot at Longpond, Montgomery County, Georgia. He had a twin
brother named John Calvin Currie (1848-1902). Other siblings included:
Elizabeth Caroline Currie, Archie Keahey Currie, Flora Ann Currie, Mary Jane
Currie, William Jackson Currie, Isabella Amanda Currie, James Burder Currie,
Newton Bethune Currie and Margaret Jane Currie.
Any assistance with this query will be greatly appreciated.
