Neither do I, and my response to the list was purely spontaneous; Albion's
Seed is a book I thought of immediately in answer to Jill's question.

I'll even add another one, Laurel Ulrich Thatcher's (I hope I have her name
right), _A Midwife's Tale_. This is a book based on a diary kept by
Martha Ballard, a midwife living in Maine in the late 1700s. It includes a
lot about daily life in this time period. Not North Carolina, but probably
similar in many respects.
