Tryon County ceased to exist in 1779. At that point in time, two
counties were formed from Tryon County. These were Rutherford County and
Lincoln County. If Nancy Matilda Baber was born 1821, then she was not a
Tryon County resident. In which county does Nancy Matilda Baber seem to
be born? Abstracts of Rutherford and Lincoln County wills have been
published. Some Rutherford and Lincoln County estates papers and some
marriages for each county are available. There are land grants and deeds
available for both counties.
Nancy Matilda Baber could be in 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880
censuses in whatever county she lived and died in. Even though the
censuses prior to 1850 do not name household members, these censuses can
be compared to later censuses to establish the presence or absence of a
female of the appropriate age if there is a clue as to who her father
was and who her husband was (if she married). Have any censuses or other
records been collected for her?
If some specific are provided about Nancy Matilda Baber or James G.
Baber Jr., someone will probably try to help.
