I think several of you out there might recognize MITCHELL COUNTY, NC -
CEMETERIES - L.G. Gouge Memorial Cemetery

I would like to determine whether or not the obviously lone PHILLIPS buried
there is MY 3rd GGrandfather--the dates might fit. John Phillips Born 15
June 1809 Died 6 March 1896. Directions to find it would be nice, too!

JOHN PHILLIPS (UNKNOWN1) was born Abt. 1810 in , , NC, and died Unknown.
He
married LUCINDA Abt. 1837. She was born Bet. 1820 - 1825 in , , NC, and
died
Bef. 1880.

1850 Census, Yancey County, NC, HH#1309 (Age 39)

1860 Census, Carter County, TN, HH#110 (Age 50)

1880 Census, Jack's Creek, Yancey County, NC, HH#76 (Age 68), living with
son
Joseph Wesley Phillips.

Children of JOSEPH PHILLIPS and ACHSAH NELSON are:
i. JAMES HENRY4 PHILLIPS, b. Abt. 1872, , , TN; d. Unknown; m. PHOEBE
CAROLINE GOUGE, Abt. 1892; b. 10/18/1871, , , NC; d. 09/09/1928.

I can provide additional lineage information upon request. I'm planning a
visit in a couple of months, and any tips or leads anyone might share,
particularly local contact information, would be appreciated.
