Hi list members;
I've been told a story about old times and I'm wondering if
there is any truth to it. My Mothers family lived just west of Hannah
and north across the line. Hannah was the closest town and even when it
was across the line was the town they often used. So happenings there
were often repeated north of the line. The story goes this way. There
was a threshing gaing with an old grain separator. That was hand fed.
Which was a dusky dirty job. They had a very grumpy iltempered man doing
the hand feeding. He had a young lad cutting the bands for him. Anyway
the lad cut the feeder man on his hand. He was really mad and told the
lad that if he did it again he would through him head first into the
cylinder. Well he was real nervous and sooner or latter it was bound to
happen, he cut him again. The Feeder man was so mad he did just what he
said he would do. Which of coarse killed the lad immediately. THe rest
of the crew was so incised about his actions that they immediately
lynched the feeder man. This was supposed to be one of the two lynchings
that took place in North Dakota in the Early days. Now is there any
truth to this story and were exactly and when did it take place. I've
told that the machine stayed right were it was for many years no one
wanted to touch it after what happened.
Now to separate fact from fiction. Did this really happen
and who were the parties involved. And just were and when did it happen.
sincerely
Hugh
