Laura,
In the St Michael church records, the priest had also spelled the surname
ROY as ROJ. I do not believe it was shortened for anything. Jake was one
of 8 boys. His parents were Frank ROY (b. abt 1857 in Poland) and Anna
KOZIOL (b. abt. 1867 in Poland). Frank and Anna were married 30 Jan 1884 at
St. Michaels Church in Tarnov, Nebraska. There seems to be some confusion
as to the birth entry for Jake. I have found all the birth/bap records for
his brothers with no problem. The only entry that matches somewhat to
Jake's birth record is that of the following:

Jacobus Jan Mostek (alias Roy) /Anna n. Koziol 3 July / July
14 Pawel Gawer/Augusta Korus

It looks like the notation "(alias Roy)" was written in different
handwriting than the original entry recording. Also noted on the side
margin is the following notation:

"Marriage records show that said Jacob Mostek was born some five months
after the marriage of Frank ROY to Anna Koziol, hence was not their son
(they were married Jan 31-1884) This is confirmed on testimony of Josef Fr.
Korus, Sr. of Tarnov, Nebr. This is inscribed by the Rev. Wenceslaus
Krzyki, OFM Feb 5, 1941"

I have estimated that Jake's birthdate is 1884. This fits the time frame,
and mother's name, and obviously, someone else thought so too! With Frank
and Anna getting married in Tarnov, and all the rest of their sons 8 sons
had baptism recorded in St Michaels (year range of boys births: 1884-1900),
it seems only logical that this Jake was actually Jake Roy and was born 5
months after their marriage! Anyways, I'd like to know who Josef Korus was
to these people that he was the "confirmed testimony"!!!

I don't have a Stella Roy in my file names. So I can't help you there...
maybe someone else can help you out there!

Monica
