: When I was just a little girl, in the summers (1940's and '50's) we
: always traveled to Nebraska to visit relatives. I have lots of
memories,
: but I am trying to clarify one and wonder if any readers can help
me.
: We sometimes went Pawnee Park in Columbus, Platte County. I seem
to
: remember large wooden horses hanging from trees that we kids would
ride
: on, swinging back and forth. I don't think they are a figment of my
: imagination, but my mother cannot tell me anything about them.
And,
: unfortunately, no photos of them exist in our family. Does anyone
: remember or have information on these delightful park animals?

Hi Judy and all,
Yes, the large horse swing existed :>) I recall only one and it was
located near the East Shelter in Pawnee Park. The park is actually
divided by Highway 30, and the East Shelter (as its name implies) is
on the east side. I'm not sure that the horse swing is still there
since many people considered it to be quite dangerous. First of all,
children (or the young at heart) had to cross a road to get to it.
The horse swing had heads at both ends and could hold several people.
Those in the middle, of course, had nothing to hold on to.
Now you've made me curious and I'll have to check it out. I'll let
you know if it's still there !
