My Mom remarried a year after my Dad (Harrison) died of cancer in 1964 ---
with 4 young children to raise. I was oldest at age 8. My stepDad (Dad) is
100% Czech and his mom was a superb cook. She was well-known for her potato
dumplings and her kolatches, rolls and rosettes. Grandma Steyer died in 1996.
I remember the big family get-togethers in Wahoo and Valparaiso and Touhy
where we were surrounded by all that wonderful Czech food------not forgetting
the Wahoo wienies.
My Mom found a great boxed dumpling mix while my folks were visiting my
youngest brother ( a STEYER) in KC last year. I now fix these at least once a
week for Dad. They are just as delicious as Grandma's. The brand name is:
Aunt Julia's Old Scandinavian Recipe Potato Dumplings. We get them at Super
Saver here in Lincoln and all you have to do is request that your local
grocery store carry this brand. These are great cooked with a roast and
sauerkraut and beef broth. It isn't Grandma's but is the next best
thing........
Have a nice day ~ Kathie Harrison
