I'm starting my needle-in-a-haystack search for two GUncles. My
GFather, Stanislaus GALUS b 2/27/1880, immig from Leki Gorne, Poland in
1898 via Philadelphia, settled in Platte Co. NE, later moved to Omaha NE
, d 5/18/1965. He married Martha KUDRON 1/31/1912 in Krakow (near Genoa
) NE. Stanislaus had five brothers and four sisters. Two brothers also
settled in NE. Thomas Peter b 3/1/1886, immig 3/1908, married but had
no children, d 6/7/1977 Omaha NE. Frank b 6/14/1884, never married, d
1/22/1957 Tarnov NE. According to verbal accounts two other brothers,
John and Joseph, came to NE. The story is that John later settled near
Chicago IL and Joseph later settled near Detroit MI. Each of the Galus
sons purportedly came to the US individually. Each was sponsored by an
Uncle Andrew PAPROCKI, who farmed near Tarnov, NE. None of the Galus
daughters came to the US. The parents of these Galus sons were Andrew
(son of Frank & Mary Anna nee PAPROCKI) & Agnes STARTS/SZTORC/SZTRIC
(dau of Francis & Maria nee TWOREK) GALUS, neither of whom came to the
US. Andrew's sister Maryanna was married to the above mentioned Andrew
PAPROCKI. Andrew GALUS had two other sisters Sophia (married Joseph
ROSNO in NE) and Katherina (married Franz/Frank LACHNIT in NE), who came
to the US.
I have no other information regarding the brothers John and Joseph.
I'm hoping to uncover something about them. If anyone has any ties to
these brothers I'd love to hear from you. If anyone would check the
census soundexes for IL and/or MI (soundex code G420) from 1900 on I'd
be most appreciative.
