17, 1877, and died February 01, 1968.

Obituary from Kracl Funeral Chapel website, Schuyler, NE:

Martin R. Shonka, age 76, of Schuyler, died Friday, October 4th at his home.
Funeral Servcies for Martin will be held Tuesday, 10:30AM at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Schuyler. Reverend Gerald Leise officiating. Burial in the
Schuyler Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by Hespen-Mitchell Post
4836 of the V.F.W. and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion. The United
States Marine Corps Burial Detail will also participate. Visitation will be
held from noon-5:30PM on Monday at the Kracl Funeral Chapel and from 6-8PM at
the church. There will be a combined Rosary Service for the Parish and
Knights of Columbus, at 7:30PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from
8:30--10:15, at the funeral chapel.


Martin was born June 2, 1926 in Schuyler to Robert W. and Clara(Jonas)
Shonka. He served in the United States Marine Corps in China from 1945-1946.
He farmed near Schuyler for nearly 40 years and was a Pork Producer. He
worked at Wagner Mills, Schuyler Coop, owned and operated Four Seasons Lawn
Service and was recently a courier for First National Bank of Schuyler.
Martin was past President of the Placo Pork Producers, member of NFO, Past
Commander of the American Legion, member of the Knights of Columbus, Former
Grand Knight and 4th Degree Knight, Schuyler VFW, Last Man's Club, the 40&8
and Schuyler Rotary. On January 8, 1988, he married Elva "Jean" Finley in
Columbus and lived in Schuyler until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Schuyler, a daughter, Marta(Bim) Gilson
of Schuyler, son Doug(Michelle) Shonka of Savage, Minnesota, 2 sisters, Katie
Havelka of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Roberta(Dr. Robert) Ortwein of
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, nieces and nephews as well as 4 step-children, Linda
(Mike) Follmer of Grand Island, Jim Finley of Hastings, Steve Finley,
Idyllwild, California and Chris(Kurt) Bogus of Millard. Six grandchildren and
10 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Danny in
1968 and brother-in-law Smokey Havelka. Family suggests memorials to the
American Cancer Society or St. Marys' Catholic Church in Schuyler.
