Yes, this is so. A couple years ago I purchased two series of old reference
books. Hagedorn was one author and I forget at the moment who the other was
(books are in temporary storage at the moment). The titles were "Jesuits of
the Midwest" and "The Franciscan's in Nebraska" I believe. Both references
have very good writeup's on the disolution of the Old St. John's and the
incorporation of the faithful into the parish at St. Bonaventure's. As I
recall, they list the location of St. John's and explain exactly why the
incorporation took place. It seems that initially, in the 1860's St. John's
was attended by all the faithful in the area plus Father Ryan did missionary
work attending those in rural settings. When St. Bonaventure's became
active, most parishioners decided to attend the newer church and those who
remained at St. John's numbered about 25 (Families and singles) and even
then, they slowly trickled away to St. Bon's. St. John's Church was just a
simple log house with bare furnishings. Ironically at about this time,
Father James Mary Ryan was due for retirement. The diocese headquarters
unilaterally affected the sale of St. John's property even though Father
Ryan objected, and their records were then deposited in St. Bon's. Shortly
thereafter, Father Ryan passed away. Fascinating reading and a good insight
into early life in the Columbus area.

Might anyone know where I could purchase a St. Bon's Centennial book that
I'm sure will be available
this weekend ??

Tom
