Mrs. Bessie Riggs died at the Rushville community hospital January 21, 1974 following a severe heart attack.

She was born in Sheridan County at the home of her parents Owen and Kate Murray, May 10, 1887. They lived south of Rushville near the Niobrara River.

Bessie was a life long resident of Sheridan County.

She was united in marriage to Bennett Riggs, June 23, 1909. Bennett was the son of Sheridan Counties first sheriff, John Riggs.

Their wedding ceremony was the first one celebrated in the new Catholic Church in Rushville.

She and her husband Bennett farmed and ranched in Sheridan County all their working years.

To this union five children were born, three daughters and two sons.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Bennett and her son John Bennett. John Bennett born Oct. 2, 1920 and died in Nov. 1922.

She is survived by Bob Riggs of Miles City Montana, Eva Clarke of Fullerton, Cal., and Amma Fisher and Adah Dukat of Sheridan County.
