Prescott and his wife, Bethia Underwood of Groton, MA
Colonel Benjamin Prescott m. Dec 5, 1775 Rachel Adams
of Chelmsford, MA b. Aug 19, 1757. While acting as a
spy for the Patriots, the day before the battle of
Bunker Hill, he was captured by the British, but made
his escape the same day. He was ever an active, energ-
etic and influential man, highly esteemed for his in-
tegrity, uprightness and sound judgement. They removed
to Jaffrey, NH where he represented th town of Jaffrey
in the New Hampshire Legislature for eleven years (from
1790 to 1796 and 1809 to 1814); he also was justice of
the peace; he was Deacon of the Baptist Church. He d.

Lincoln, Feb 26, 1864, and confirmed by the U.S.
Senate, Paymaster in the Union Army with the rank of
Major. He was Brevet Lieut. Colonel appointed Nov
15, 1865 by the President, and confirmed by the Senate.
He was honorably discharged Dec 1, 1865 and resided
at Fredonia, NY
