Dear Francis and List,
I'm looking for any info abt my GGrandfather Captain Robert HAMILTON who was
lost at sea in May 1882 when his schooner, the Richard and Mary,
disappeared in storms off Greymouth. ( see NZ shipwrecks, CWN Ingram,
Beckett Publishing, Aukland ) He must have arrived in NZ sometime before
1869 because he married Annie Hope COLE (nee BLAKE) in Wellington in that
year. He was born abt 1836. Her gravestone in Kaikoura cemetery describes
him as Master Mariner. Did he perhaps have a brother ? I am aware of his
other descendants in NZ - there were 6 children, but I'd like to know
something of his Scottish origins specially as I now live in Scotland - and
wear the tartan !

From Jane Kelly in wet and
windy Penicuik, Scotland.
