Seeking information on my husbands grandfather;
Henry George BAILEY born Shortland (Thames) on 17 July 1873,
Father Henry Bailey, came to NZ in 1869, born London 1842 (His father was
John Bailey), died at Waitara while working on the SS Rawene as a stoker, on
14 Aug. 1880, is buried at Raleigh Cemetery.
Mother Elizabeth Bonney, born 1857 at Berkshire, daughter of William Bonney
and Eliza Locke (Eliza remarried George French before they came to NZ), died
at Alexandra Street, Newmarket, Auckland on 11 May 1903 (she had remarried
to Martin Coulson, Norwegian, in 1882. This family came to NZ in 1868/69.
They were married at Thames on 27 May 1872.
Henry George had a brother and sister from his mothers marriage to Henry
Bailey, details unknown.
Henry George Bailey married Minnie Jessup, born 1873, Taradale, Vic. in
Melbourne in
29 June 1894.
Children were all born Auckland:
Violet b. 1897
Rita b. 1898
Ernest b. 1899
George b. 1902
Florence b. 1903.
Henry and Minnie divorced in 1905/06, at that time Henry was working on NZ
Railway as a fireman between Wanganui and Palmerston North and lived at
Halcome and Fielding.
He is listed in the Wanganui census up to 1919 as residing at Balgownie
Street, Wanganui. After that I have no info.
Very grateful and thanks in advance if anyone has information on Henry
George Bailey after his divorce. Please email me.
