Surname: ARTHUR, BLACK
-------------------------

Trying to solve a family mystery. My late father-in-law knew very little
about his mother's family. Mary Cousar BLACK had been the last born of
the 11 children of William Black and Janet ARTHUR of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire,
Scotland and Mary was orphaned by age 13. She did not know her older brothers
and sisters well as they emigrated to Africa, NZ and Australia but she
knew that an older sister was murdered in New Zealand. She was a widow
and the offence seemed to take place during a robbery. Some of the circumstances
relayed to me were bizarre. Then apparently, the wrong person was tried,
convicted and hung for the crime and a few years later the true perpetrator
was discovered. I would like to know more about this but do not know these
important statistics: 1. the date of the crime (although likely between
1890 and 1930) 2. the location of the crime other than NZ. 3. the married
name of the victim, just the maiden name BLACK 3. which of the following
BLACK sisters it was - Margaret born 1858; Janet born 1867; or Agnes born
1869. Any suggestions on how to solve this puzzle appreciated. Kathleen
Logan
