The Public Notices of my local paper here in New Zealand recently included notification from Singapore's Housing and Development Board of a proposed exhumation of graves at the Bidadari Christian Cemetery in Singapore. It is apparently an old burial ground dating back to 1908, although it has been closed since 1972. The area is now wanted for housing development, so the Housing and Development Board is inviting next-of-kin to register their claim of ancestral graves, the closing date for Registration Forms being 30 November 2001; claimants will then be notified individually of the detailed procedures - generally it seems each grave will be exhumed individually and the remains cremated, ashes will be stored appropriately unless specifically claimed by relatives or unless unclaimed.
Further deatils are available from the Singapore High Commission, or else at the website - www.hbd.gov.sg/bidadari
