Watching the equivalent of the Home Guard practising bayoneting 'sack
people' suspended from a wooden frame. Rushing under a tree when
somebody shouted 'Jap plane' Playing in the slit trenches (war of
course) Mum saying 'eat it and be thankful' Saying my prayers every
night for my numerous cousins overseas. We NEVER had cream and extra
butter etc because we felt if we did our cousins would be in danger. We
lost three. Italy, North Sea, over Germany all of them under 22.
