... When the town site was surveyed in the 1860's it was named officially
Campbelltown and perpetuated the maiden name of the then Governor of New
Zealand, Sir Thomas Gore Brown. Campbelltown to some extent still
designates the western part of Bluff town on the ocean coast. The name
Bluff was adopted officially in 1917...
