I've done three adoption searches using my genealogy research skills, all
three were successful because I had the original name to go by.
One search only took an afternoon at the library because the mother, liking
the name so much, used it again, eighteen months later.
In all cases, the original registered name was on the index along with the
adoptive one. I don't know what would happen if one requested a copy from
BDM.
And in all cases, the families were pleased to be contacted.
