Thank you Jane for the extracts from the 1938 Mirror.

You have shaken a few grey cells loose and reminded me of a lady that
was a frequent visitor at my Grandmothers, I believe from the stories
told they were firm friends.

Now could SKS suggest where I might find records pertaining to the Upper
Hutt/ Wellington branches of the National Party ?

I was told that my Grandmother was a branch secretary for a while, and
she did seem to have some politically inclined visitors when I was
visiting as a child, many years ago. She has been dead for thirty
years.
