Desni asked how to find the names of a child registered as "unnamed male"
The only person who could tell you the names is their descendants, but you
could get the names of the parents of these babies by purchasing the
certificates. At $30 each you might not feel that was worth it.
It was quite common at that period in NZ for the birth to be registered
without any first names. I have one in my ancestry. I know the names
because my mother told me, but there would be no other easy way of getting
them. You might be able to match a date of birth from some other document
back to the birth certificate, but that implies you know quite a lot about
that person.
At a later date a lack of names is usually because the infant died close to
birth. That can be verified by looking at the deaths index.
