Hi Elizabeth
I went to the Auckland library today and here is a breif outline.
"Original completed in 1858. It was owned by James Holmes who was grnated a
bush licence under the amendments act in 1858. It was rebuilt in 1902 and
named the Esplanade Hotel. It is opposite the Ferry Wharf."
There were a lot of newspaper items regarding the hotel. Auckland library
