Dear Christine
Yes I am sure this would be the famous escapee. My Palmerston North grandmother often told the story of how easily Powelka stole from his neighbours to satisfy his wife's desire for nice things - it was when she started showing them off that the neighbours found what had happened to their disappearing treasures! His houdini escapes took over and no doubt most people forgot why he was in gaol.
