Dear Penny,
Thank you for your reply. I am a volunteer at the Salvation Army Archives, [ 202-204 Cuba St. Wellington, PO Box 6015 phone 04 384 5649 ] which has a large selection of NZ history that has any contact with the S.A. It is remarkable in the scope of the information there .The were involved with the first movies in N.Z.Captain Perry had filmed a procession in Melbourne, the departure of troops to the Boer War, 1901, and the opening of parliament. The N.Z. P.M. Seddon asked and Perry filmed the tour of the Duke and Dutchess of York in 1901. The wreck of the "Wairarapa" Great Barrier Island 1894 where an officer was one of the 130 drowned was immortalised in a musical program played over N.Z. and Australia. There's lots more, but the archives co-op and interact with National Archives, National Museum and the film Library The weekly "War Cry " commencing 1893 is being put on microfilm.
Sorry that's a long way round to saying I did Maternity training at Bethany Wellington 1946-8 and when I returned from a very extended O.E. organised a nurses reunion in 1987. While at archives we decided to document the Bethany history and found there was no complete list of the nurses trained there. That's what I hope to do now, but need help from those who know about staffing at the Salvation Army Maternity Homes. Thanks
Effie
