Hi Irene,
Gerald Edward Simpson was engineer on board the Auxiliary Schooner KAHU
which was believed to have foundered with her crew of four hands about March
26 1920 when on a voyage from Motiti Island to Auckland with a cargo of
maize. Details are in New Zealand Shipwrecks 1795 -1960 (or later
editions) by C.W.N. Ingram and P/O/ Wheatley, which should be available at
your local library
I you can't find it please contact me off list and I will type out the full
details for you.

I have an ancestor Gerard Edwin Sampson (Marine Engineer) who was lost when
his ship carrying wheat from the South Island, disappeared without trace off
the east coast during a storm. I have a death date of March 26 1920 for
him. I do not know if this is correct. His probate was filed 15 February
1921. I would love any information to try and find any newspaper clipping
of the tragedy. Can anyone help out.
