There was a Sanitorium at Pukeora on top of the hill on the main
Waipukurau - Takapau rd.
Opened in 1919. I think it was closed in the 50s but not sure about that
date

Subject: [NZ] TB OUTBREAK

Paddy,

I know there was a serious and widespread outbreak of TB in the Wellington
area around the time of WW2. My mother was one of the victims, she was sent
to a sanatorium in the Cashmere Hills of Christchurch. Many of her friends
died there. The source was found to be a cook at one of the major hotels in
Wellington. He was a carrier of the disease.

I suspect it was fairly widespread in other parts of the world, hence the
development of the vaccination.
