Adele,
Just as an interesting addenda to your Hart fellow, my Dad's
cousin's husband-Fred, was in the Boer war; was wounded at Gallipoli(dropped
wrist), The bullet that hit him also sliced his binocular case strap; the
medics knotted it up and it hung in the front hall of his residence in Chch
with the original knot until he died. He would not let anyone touch it.
He was laid off from the Addington Workshops in 1933; yet was still on
the NatMR. He was very proud of his NZ WW2 Service medal, which he earned
for 2 weeks, before they caught up with him, guarding the Lyttelton Railway
Tunnel. Incidentally, he never worked again, Stayed on the pension until he
died at age 85.
