Yes I believe there was a girl killed in the C.A.C. factory and it was my
grandfather who redesigned it so that no one else would be hurt.

Hi Shirley,
I don't know anything about the Ford Ammunition factory, but I worked
in the C.A.C. factory in Auckland. [ ?? Colonial Ammunition Company ]
It was situated beside or attached to the Mt. Eden jail, I had just
finished my midwifery training in Auckland and wanted to see more of the
city so took a job. That would have been about December January 1949-1950.
I worked making precussion caps for shotgun cartridges, and the previous
girl there had had an accident, but I never found out if she was killed or
not. Some sort of an explosion. We were not supposed to wear any metal, toe
plates etc, on our shoesbut there was no checking.
Have you tried Petone Settler's Museum. Ph. 04 568.8373 open Tuesday to
Friday 12 noon to 4pm I do not have their e mail and it was not on their
answer phone
Perhaps not relevant but you may find my story interesting.
