Subject: [NZ] Minors getting married in 1860's

My great grandfather William Edmund Brown married a Mary Percival in 1862
who was classified a 'minor' on the marriage certificate. Would there have
to be a Bans or Intent to Marry made before this could happen? If so where
would I find it?
