Adele,
There is a book, probably available at your library, which details
the history of the island especially as it pertains to the internees during
the war. Most of these individuals were of German ancestry even though many
of them had lived in NZ for many years. They were classed as 'enemies of the
state.
Not sure of the books title or whether it lists the 'prisoners'
though the library would know.

Subject: [nz] Somes Island. WW2

Good morning,

Is there a list anywhere please for the people *interned* on Somes Island.
WW2 era? Would be of foreign stock... I cannot disclose the name I am
asked to research on at present.. rather a delicate matter in a way...

Would they have been there for a set time, allowed off? Anything that can
assist me in the search please... even though I have a huge amount of
research at present, I cannot say no to this one!

It isnt for a Carterton person, rest assured, so no guessing or anything as
it won't work!!!

Thank you.
