Hi Jan

George ANDERSON along with his brother Daniel left the Shetland Islands for
New Zealand in the early 1860s, leaving his future wife behind.

He later returned and married her:
George ANDERSON + Ellen Catherine POLE m. 9 June 1868 in Lerwick, Shetland
Islands.

They had two children before returning to NZ:
Catherine Ellen ANDERSON b. 3 June 1869 Edinburgh.
William ANDERSON b. 8 December 1873 Lerwick.

They sailed to NZ aboard the Howrah (sailed London 26 August 1874, arrived
Wellington 30 November 1874. They then travelled to New Plymouth, then by
coastal ship to Greymouth.

Passenger list for Howrah:

(Note the presence of Joan POLE among single women).

Regards,
Peter Sim

I am looking for a family named Anderson who were in Reefton by 1878. They
came from the Shetland Isles, and I am wondering where they would have
disembarked from their ship. No idea of name, only know it was between 1873
and 1878.
TIA
