" John ANDERSON aged 28, who had been in NZ for 8 years and who was a
'Master in Grammar School', was married in 1872 to Jane PIKE who was aged 16
and had been here 14 years.

They both were dwelling in Parnell and the marriage was to be held in St
Mary Parnell.
Is anyone able to help with where John taught before the marriage? Or
whether he stayed there after the marriage?"
This was probably Auckland Grammar School, which still exists.
It started in 1869, although on a different site from where it is now. It
was originally in Symonds St, close to Grafton Rd

The school has an Archives, and may be able to help you with more details.
Their website is http://www.ags.school.nz/
