Hi Mike,

Auckland Grammar School was founded in 1869. If your John Anderson was a
part of this school he would be one of the founding teachers. In the
early 1870s I believe that the school was still in the Howe St area
(Near the site of the current Auckland Girls Grammar School). Later AGS
moved to Mountain Rd in Epsom.

mentions an early Church of England Grammar School which moved to
Parnell. To know which school he taught at you will need to find the
opening date of Church of England Grammar School.
