GARLAND, Henry and Elizabeth, together with their children

Henry William (m Eliza Cook)

John (m. Sarah Seaman)

Mary Elizabeth (m. William Gilbert)

Lucy Martha (m. John Turner Giffney)

Emma Frances (m. James Adams)

Edward Robert Lewis (m Eusebia Palmer) and

George Joseph (m Sarah Schoullar)

arrived in Auckland on The African on 28 January 1860.

Their elder daughters, Susannah Caroline (m Lewis Roach) and

Elizabeth (m. Theophilis Watkis) remained in England.

Later that year the family settled at Awhitu, on the west side of

the Manukau Harbour. A reunion to celebrate 150 years of the Garland family

in New Zealand will be held on the Awhitu Peninsula January 24 - 26

(Auckland Anniversary Weekend) 2010.

Family movements have led to loss of contact within some branches.

For this reason we are trying particularly to make contact with the descendants of:

Elizabeth (Bessie) Frances Garland Paxton (née Giffney),

Josephine Desprez Souter (née Giffney)

Emma (Nemmie) Garland Bach (née Giffney)

Dora (Dolly) Erin Sumner (née Giffney)

Winifred Evelyn Hayston (née Giffney)

Emma Maude Saunders (née Garland)

Ethel May Holden (née Garland)

Henry William and Eliza Garland (née Cook).

After Henry William Garland's death Eliza married a Mr Reed, who adopted

Louis/Lewis and Henry jnr and moved to Australia.
