Hello everyone,

I've just found out, care of some of the amazingly helpful people on this
list, that my gt-gt-grandfather jouned the NZ Militia when he arrived in the
country in 1863 at the age of 19, and fought in the "Maori War".

I now want to try and find out if there are any service records or whatever
surviving for such people. I've tried searching on Archway, but get a zero
success rate - could be that I'm not using the right search terms or else
Archway's not the right place. I've been trying to find out more about this
conflict since I found out about our family connection and I've read that
the term "Maori War" is not a popular one, but I'm not sure what to search
for it under in places like Archway.

Can someone point me in the right direction, please? If there's somewhere I
should visit in either Wellington or Auckland to search, then I'll make sure
I go there when I visit NZ on a family history 'digging' trip in April this
year.

I will certainly be visiting the Te Papa museum in Wellington to find out
more about the conflict, though, as at present I don't know any more than
basic details about it.

Many thanks for your shared knowledge.

Jeny
