Hello,

I'm new to the list and would be interested to know if there is anyone out there descended from my husband's great-great-uncle, Charles Langton Croxford, born 6th July 1836 in Clerkenwell, London, and who died in Otaga, New Zealand, in 1900?

He married Susan Emma Norton (born 1842 in Clerkenwell) on 2nd April 1861, in St. Peter's Church, Saffron Hill, London, and they had 5 children before 1870.

In the 1871 census they were still living in Clerkenwell, and he was always shown as an iron plate worker, like many of the Croxfords.

He seems to have emigrated in 1872. I think his youngest child died on the way to New Zealand (Eleanor Susan Croxford born 1870).

His other children were:-

Charles Croxford born 1862 Bethnal Green, London

Francis, born 1864, London

James, born 1865, London

George, born 1868, Whitechapel, London

His wife is mentioned in some context (possible to do with probate of his will) in 1900, on the New Zealand National Archives web-site, so presumably she out-lived her husband.

I would be very interested to know if there are any Croxfords still living in New Zealand, and grateful for any information.

Many thanks,

Maggie Mattock
