I have found a web reference to a CD which contains scans of the passenger
list for Reichstag - Hamburg to Wellington 1874.
http://www.hamburgnzpass.info/nzlships.htm

I don't know how much the CD would cost, but this would give you an
opportunity to look at the actual handwriting to verify that it really is
Czarbenezer.

Re the comment by another correspondent (Rae) that her husband's family came
from Pomerania: at the time of this voyage I understand that Pomerania had
been subsumed into Prussia, so this is consistent with the statement by the
Zajanowski brothers that they came from Prussia. If you focus on Pomerania
at the time of migration, this would narrow your search.

Another place to search would be on the Hamburg Passenger Lists if you can
get access. If you got the original records, there is less likelihood that
the name of their place of origin was misspelt by an Anglo Saxon
monolinguist...

Cheers
John
