Regarding all the discussion about trees on line, I would say I have a
distinct love-hate relationship with Ancestry. I first went onto the site
some years back using a 14 days free trial. First name I put in was that of
a great-aunt who had completely "disappeared". Within minutes I had details
of marriage, children and her death. All was submitted by a descendant I
have contacted, and all has been verified.
Since then I have found heaps more good information, and heaps of rubbish. I
have emailed many, heard back from one or two. I have put comments on the
bottom of a person's listing too, in case they notice that, but at least
other people can read that and draw their own conclusions. When someone
tries to say a man was born in USA to a couple of a different surname who
never left Cornwall, can they not realise the mistake? That had been copied
several times. One only had the decency to reply - "I thought it was a bit
strange." A bit?? The couple in Cornwall did have a son with the same first
name and birth year, but naturally he had the same surname as his parents.
Way back I started a tree on Ancestry, but got busy with other things, then
later could not get back to it. So my info resides on FamNet, where I
consider it safe. Will I later post on Ancestry - maybe, maybe not. Probably
not.
