This is to help those who aren't getting all their email messages and who
also have problems with their servers cutting them off because of too many
messages.
When a person isn't getting all of there email messages many times it is the
way you have your different switches/preferences/options set -- for instance:
Many will have an option of how many to receive at a time -- some people put
25, some 50, some 500 -- when the mail program reaches that number you have
as your default, it stops getting mail and waits x number of minutes before
it checks and gets more -- change that number to a high number.
Many times a system will time out when trying to get a large message --
which it will keep trying again and again to get, in the meantime messages
are coming in and they are backing up:
Some of these switches have options so you can skip the big messages -- if
your system is timing out while trying to get a big message, mark this
switch block so it will bypass that and get all the smaller ones --
otherwise the messages will keep backing up and soon you will have too many.
Many servers have specifications on the NUMBER of messages you get -- you
can reduce this number by going to the DIGEST instead of the LIST of the
different lists you have subscribed to -- just unsubscribe then subscribe
using the -D instead of -L. (for example -- using the -l you might get 50
messages but using the -D you would only get 1 or 2)
But remember that some servers also only allow a certain number of megs of
messages (doesn't care on number -- just total amount stored on their server
until you download them to your computer) -- so you MUST check this often
and if going on vacation unsubscribe or stop temporarily until you come back.
Hope above helps someone,
Judy M.
