It is hard for so many of us to imagine how anyone could desecrate a
grave;but unfortunately these things happen. There are so many who no longer
have any respect for the rights or property of others.
In 1979, I attended the funeral of my grandmother in a small rural community
in Southern GA. My grandmother was a lifeling resident of that community; her
gg-parents were founding fathers. After the funeral, I was shocked that the
family members back a couple of pickup trucks in and hauled her numerous
flowers away. I was furious. The explanation was that the flowers would be
stolen. I do not know whether this was true; I just knew this action did not
seem right to me. I felt if they did not want to leave the flowers they had
purchased, that was their decision; but if they were taking the flowers from
other family members, and others in the community, then we should have been
advised of their plans before the funeral. I was really depressed by this
lack of respect.
We have had occasions nearby when vandals have gone into cemtaries and
vandalized graves, unearthing some. It makes you wonder what the world is
