Subject: [NEWGEN-L] Cemetery measuring

The message telling of the story of Mr. Webster reminded me of how many
times I have come across this same thing here in America in cemeteries.
Persons with tape measures or "stepping out" measurements. I was told each
time that it gave them an idea of how many graves were in the area and many
of the township or county persons who handled these cemeteries would use
these measurements to know where they could dig for the next body to be
placed for the many graves where there were no headstones or the headstones
had crumbled away, been removed and now nothing is there. Also saw people
twitching -- this is because the graves often have water accumulate and can
tell where graves are as opposed to where graves are not. Another thing is
the persons using the metal detectors -- the metal in the coffins will
register as well as some cemeteries use metal rods just like they use for
property lines -- will put a metal rod at each grave so they can measure to
the next grave then for digging years later, etc. or for when they bury the
persons 2 or 3 deep know where to dig.
