Hello all.
I was born in St. Louis Mo. over 45 years ago. Long enough ago to remember the
city in another era. Harry Cary was still with the St. Louis Cardinals ( radio
announcer), the hot tamali man still pushed his cart up Russell Blvd.(were my
grandparents lived) and the electric tram still ran down the street to take us
downtown. I can still rember the smell of the brewery and, the smell of the
sicamore trees (that lined the street) when it rained.
. When I was 2 my father built a home in St. Charles Mo.. Later, when I
would visit friends or family in St. Louis they would kid me about living in
the poedooks or boonies. St. Charles is no longer the boonies and I'm not so
sure that's good. It is a town with a rich history. In may of 1804 Lewis and
Clark left from St. Charles on their expedition. Daniel Boone lived in West
St. Charles Co. and I visited that home (a musieum) many times. The town was
the first capital of Mo. under conditions of the Missouri Compromise(1821) You
can still visit the old buildings, that were used by members of government, on
Main Street. Another steet, is called Booneslick and it runs into Main
Street. It is the old Daniel Boone trail. In my mid twenties a owned a small
business on Booneslick. If anyone is in this area and wants to feel a little
history be sure and find Main Street and the Missouri river.
. I now live in the Chicago area and I love this town. But, St.Charles
and St. Louis feel like home.
