But where do the granddaughters fit in? I understand the 2 brothers with
different fathers. Therefore . . .
2 fathers = 2 sons = 2 brothers
2 brothers have 2 wives

Now I can also go with your assumption that the 2 wives are the 2 sisters of
the 2 brothers with unrelated parents so there is no incest,

and I can go with your assumption that the 2 grandmothers have living
grandchildren

BUT . . . the riddle says the two grandmothers were buried *WITH* their two
granddaughters.

The two wives cannot be sisters of the brothers who are the sons of the
mothers and still be the granddaughters of the grandmothers . . . can they?
