Wendy,
This doesn't answer your question directly, but you might be
interested in this website about Illinois in the Civil War. There's a
listing of all the troops by Regiment and Company and perhaps other
info of interest to you. I think the inscription on the tombstone is
probably just an abbreviation of "Illinois": ILLS.
