This is a good site if you suspect there were criminals in your ancestry,
(and if you dig long enough, you most likely do). http://digbig.com/4dpdt
I am looking specifically at Virginia but there are many other states to
search. I think they are free, at least so far as I have been that has been
true. There is also a place to search for prison records for other
countries, not sure if this is free search but it's worth a look.
