Sonoma County Democrat Dec. 27, 1862 Santa Rosa, Sonoma co CA.
Judge SOUTHARD of the Seventh District has appointed Mr. E.S. STOCKWELL
District Reporter.
John S. VAN DOREN, of Petaluma, is a candidate for Minute Clerk of the
Senate, and J.D. BINNS, of Healdsburg, is a candidate for
Sergeant-at-Arms of the Assembly. They are both "good boys" and if
elected, to the positions will fill them with credit.
Brig. Gen. WRIGHT recently received orders from the Department at
Washington, for the immediate release of all political prisoners
confined on this coast; and accordingly, Major McKAY of Benicia, and
Major GILLIS of Sacramento, have been released from confinement at Fort
Alcatraz.
The little steamer 'Paul Pry', on a pleasure trip around Alcatraz
Island, Monday last, run on to a sunken rock about two hundred feet from
the shore of the island and sunk. No lives were lost.
