Death of Mrs. S. J Thornton

Mrs. S. J. Thornton died at the family home in the western part of town=20
Saturday afternoon, at 1:20 o=92clock. the body was buried in the Odd Fello=
ws=20
Cemetery Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the home by=20
Rev. D. W. Gaddy, her local pastor. This kindhearted, God fearing mother,=20
had lived a useful consecrated life and death came and sat like a hallow of=20
glory on her brow as when the innocent fall asleep.
She would have been 76 years old July 10, and leaves a husband and nine=20
children surviving. The children are six boys and three girls. They are W.=
=20
J. Thornton, Waxahachta, N.Y., Ed, Rufus, E.C., and Bascom Thornton all=20
living in and near San Saba. Mesdames M. M. Brown, San Saba, I.R. Black,=20
Bow, Washington, and C. J. Welch of Richland Springs.
Mrs. Thornton was born and married in Georgia. The family moved to Texa=
s=20
in 1870, first settling in Titus County. In 1877, they came to San Saba=20
County and settled the Thornton homestead a few miles west of San Saba town=20
on Flat Branch.
Five years ago these good people celebrated their Golden Wedding=20
anniversary. Mrs. Thornton was indeed a true =93mother of Israel=94 having=20
joined the Methodist Protestant Church in early childhood and living a=20
devoted christian life day by day. Kind hearted, _____ _______ =20
____patient the weary always found a resting place in her home and the hungr=
y=20
shared her food.
One of the longest funeral processions ever witnessed in San Saba=20
followed the body to the cemetery Monday afternoon as bidding testimonial of=
=20
__________ and recognition of her worth as a christian mother.
