LOCAL NOTES
TOWN, COUNTY, AND VICINITY.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris B. Olivet, old and highly respected residents of
Flatbush, in the town of Kingston, will celebrate their fiftieth wedding
anniversary on Friday evening of the present week. A large number of friends
will be assembled on the occasion to congratulate the venerable couple upon
the completion of a half centry of faithful and happy companionship.
The entertainment at Music Hall this evening by James S. Mackaye is said to
be especially enjoyable, the subject being, "Illustrations of the Science and
Art of Dramatic Expression." This will include numerous recitations, grave
and humorous, and as Mackaye is a marvel in the way of using his face, his
arms, and his body generally, his representations are highly entertaining.
The firm of Ridenour & Sleight, the well known dealers of furniture on Wall
street, has been dissolved by the withdrawal of Mr. Ridenour whose failing
health obliges him to abandon a business which he has succeeded in building
into one of the most prosperous in the city. The business will be continued
as heretofore by Mr. Sleight, whose character for probity, together with long
experience renders it superfluous for us to commend him to the favor of the
public. The high reputation of the firm will not be lowered under his
management.
There was a pleasant gathering of a few of the friends of Mr. and Mrs. James
E. Ostrander, at their residence on Main street, on Saturday evening last, to
exchange congratulations with them upon the twenty-fifth anniversary of their
marriage. The affair was altogether informal, although a number of valuable
tokens of esteem were presented to the hospitable couple, who enjoy a wide
circle of friends in our community. They are still among the "young folks,"
and their many friends will add to the congratulations now a hearty wish that
they may live to enjoy another quarter of a century of happy married life.
There was a large and attentive audience gathered to hear Rev. (unreadable
first initial - possibly an H or R) J. Creswell, at Music Hall, Sunday
afternoon. The adress was much appreciated by every one present.
Mr. and Mrs. Abram Meyers, of Pine Bush, were very pleasantly surprised last
Friday evening, the twenty-fifth anniversary of their marriage, by the sudden
appearance of quite a large party of their friends from this city. They bore
with them a plentiful repast, a tea-service and several other pieces of
silver, and an unlimited amount of good wishes. The gifts were presendted to
the bewildered recipients by their pastor, Rev. Mr. Westgate, with
appropriate remarks. To which the happy groom replied in terms equally
appropriate, notwithstanding his assertion that no word could do justice to
his feelings. All present voted it one of the pleasantest affairs they ever
attended and returned with happy hearts wishing their silver wedding were
near at hand.
